Health and safety

We promote a culture of safety based on awareness and shared responsibility

We ensure working conditions that protect the dignity of every person and promote safe and healthy working environments, in full compliance with current regulations on safety, injury prevention and worker protection.

We periodically carry out risk assessment in accordance with Legislative Decree 81/08, formalising the results in the Risk Assessment Document (DVR as "Documento di Valutazione dei Rischi"), which analyses and identifies Health and Safety risks, as well as the regulations applicable to relations with employees and collaborators.

Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Policies and commitments

We have implemented a rigorous set of policies and procedures aimed at preventing workplace accidents and injuries, while at the same time ensuring environmental protection.

Our main guideline is the Sesa Group Sustainability Policy, which defines the core commitments and guiding principles that inspire our actions to safeguard occupational health and safety and the environment. This Policy is the base of our commitment to environmental protection and workplace safety, establishing high standards and clear targets that all our companies are required to pursue, ensuring a safe and sustainable working environment for all employees and collaborators, in compliance with international Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards and regulations.

In line with our commitment to continuous improvement, Sesa promotes an integrated and participatory approach to OHS, encouraging the active involvement of employees and the engagement of their representatives through proactive communication and engagement.

In support of our Sustainability Policy, we have developed a specific Group Health and Safety Policy, which all companies are required to follow and comply with. Each company has also implemented its own certified Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) management system, ensuring a consistent and integrated approach to safety and sustainability across all operational sites.

Currently, certified HSE systems cover more than 90% of the Group’s workforce.

Operational Controls and Internal Audits

Compliance with principles and regulations on occupational health and safety and environmental protection is a non-negotiable requirement for all Sesa personnel, as well as for third-party companies operating in partnership with the Group. A team made up of specialized resources (Head of Human Resources, Health and Safety Manager, Company Doctor, Workers' Safety Representative) is responsible for ensuring a safe and legally compliant working environment, defining guidelines, coordinating monitoring activities, and, where necessary, implementing programs to improve safety conditions.

Regular analyses are carried out to detect the presence of potential workplace hazards and to identify and assess risks. The control measures applied to eliminate or mitigate risks include: several health and safety training programs, differentiated according to the risks and professional profiles within the company; personal and collective equipment and protective devices; any organizational measures necessary to ensure the highest level of worker safety within the working environment.

We also periodically update our Risk Assessment Document for health and safety in the workplace, a document that contains a mapping of the risks associated with our activities. The mapping activity involves all Group companies and activities, enabling us to identify the potential hazards associated with them and to assess the risks by taking into account prevention and protection measures aimed at eliminating or reducing them to an acceptable level.

Performance indicators in OHS area

Among the main performance indicators used to measure the effectiveness of actions taken in the area of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) are accident and absenteeism rates.

All employees in Italy are covered by the mandatory insurance against accidents at work and occupational diseases (INAIL, Italian Institute for Insurance Against Accidents at Work), while employees of foreign companies are covered by the mandatory regulations in force in their respective countries.

In the Fiscal Year 2025, there were a total of 37 accidents (minor), almost all of which occurred on the way to or from work (in itinere).

The workplace accident rate was equal to 3.38 (calculated as the ratio between the number of accidents and the number of hours worked x 1,000,000).

There were no workplace deaths or occupational illnesses during the Fiscal Year.

The absenteeism rate is less than 3% (calculated by counting hours of absence excluding holidays and leave).

ISO 45001 Certification and Management System

The Sesa Group has defined a framework to improve safety, reduce risks in the workplace and support the health and well-being of workers, in accordance with the international reference standard ISO 45001. This approach has enabled the Group's companies to improve their health and safety performance.

To date, several Group companies have already obtained ISO 45001 certification, with their occupational health and safety management systems audited by an independent third party, covering a total of 90% of locations and resources.

The occupational health and safety management systems are periodically verified by internal control bodies (the Employer, the Head and Officers of the Prevention and Protection Service, the Competent Doctor, the Workers' Safety Representative and the Internal Audit function) and by independent third parties. All checks are carried out in accordance with international auditing principles (ISO 19011 guidelines), so that the audit is a useful tool for providing information on the basis of which the organisation can take action to improve its performance.

SDGs Goal

8 Decent Work and Economic Growth EN: Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.
Goal 8 of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) focuses on sustainable, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full employment and decent work for all, and explicitly includes the promotion of safe and healthy work environments (health and safety at work) and the protection of workers' rights, addressing issues such as forced labour, child labour, fair wages, and the inclusion of young people, women and vulnerable people, linking economic growth and human dignity.

Sesa contributes to this goal by ensuring safe and inclusive work environments. We recognise that workplace safety is not a secondary issue, but a fundamental component of “decent work” and a central challenge in building sustainable economies and equitable societies, ensuring that economic growth does not come at the expense of workers' health and well-being.
